Jessica, better known as "Jess", grew up in Newport News, Virginia and after high school made her way to New Kent County and eventually the Williamsburg area, where she now lives with her husband, Dave, youngest of three daughters, Felicity and their 3 dogs and two cats. Jess discovered her love for running in her late twenties after finding fitness for the first time in her life in 2006. What began as at home workout videos, transitioned into short runs around her neighborhood, and eventually to her first 5k race in 2010 in Newport News, with the Peninsula Track Club. Her 27:15 finish earned her a 1st place age group run, and she suddenly had the running bug. She wouldn't run another local 5k race however until April 2012 at the Run the DOG 5k, but the mileage she built up in those 2 years resulted in a faster finish time and her deciding to join the Colonial Road Runners and participate in races regularly. During this time, she also started the first elementary run club in New Kent County, called Otters on the Run, to inspire young people to fall in love with running like she did. She was also a regular participating in the PTC track workouts at Tabb High School, which is where she met her husband and now business partner. Eventually 5ks became 10ks, 10ks led to her first half marathon in 2013, and that led her to decide to run her first full in November of 2014. At age 33 she managed a 3:33:43 at Richmond Marathon and placed 33rd in her age group. While she no longer runs the marathon distance, she still enjoys the occasional local 5K and 10k, is a regular at Orangetheory Fitness in Williamsburg and participates in the Virginia Run for Cancer 24 hour race each year with Team Wingnutz. Being able to transition her love of running and the running community to supporting them through a local run specialty store is a dream come true. She also happens to be the local Delegate of the 71st, but when you see her out and about, or at the store, she's just Jess :)
